Nocefresca is a residency that brings together artists, designers, writers, and creative nomads from around the world. Its objective is for artists to focus on their projects while experiencing the inspiring environment of Sardinia island, Italy, rich in nature, history, and culture.
For Nocefresca, I was responsible for designing the entire user experience for both artists and call organizers, focusing on creating a seamless and intuitive web application tailored to their unique needs.
USER RESEARCH
My work began with in-depth research to develop detailed user personas and map comprehensive user journeys, ensuring that every interaction aligned with their goals.
Given the project’s timing during the COVID pandemic, I conducted remote interviews during user research for Nocefresca. I spoke with Francesca, the system’s administrator, and several artists who had participated in past Nocefresca stays. These interviews provided valuable insights into user perspectives, helping me understand their thought processes and identify critical pain points across the entire workflow. This research was instrumental in shaping effective solutions to address these challenges and streamline the user experience.
To understand Francesca’s flows, I began by conducting interviews and observational studies to gather insights into her day-to-day tasks, challenges, and goals. This research formed the foundation for creating a detailed user persona that encapsulated her motivations and pain points. Next, I mapped out comprehensive user journeys, starting from her initial interaction with the system to her desired outcomes, highlighting each step and touchpoint. By analyzing these flows, I identified inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement, ensuring the redesigned process mirrored Francesca’s natural workflow and reduced friction, ultimately creating a more intuitive and efficient user experience.
For Nocefresca, I conducted an in-depth analysis of the information architecture, ensuring content was structured logically and intuitively. I also mapped the navigation flows for both the public and private portals. Artists begin their requests in the public portal, submitting initial information for assessment. Once their submission is reviewed and approved, they are provided with credentials to access the private portal, where they can complete the remaining tasks and finalize their process.
PROTOTYPING
I then translated these insights into a fully interactive, high-fidelity prototype built in Axure RP, incorporating user feedback and iterative testing to refine the design and deliver an optimal experience.
